April bloom for UW's cherry trees

SEATTLE — The University of Washington is expecting cherry blossoms at the Seattle campus to reach peak bloom in early April, including the famous 29 Yoshino cherry trees in an area known as the Quad.

In a press release, the UW said this year's colder-than-usual spring has slightly delayed blooming. As of March 15, the trees in the Quad are mostly green buds and a few florets, where the folded-up petals are emerging. The trees will likely hit 10% bloom the week of March 20. The Quad's two plum trees have already begun to bloom.
