Macrina’s newest location will be across from Reservoir Park.

Longtime Seattle bakery and cafe Macrina Bakery is planning to open a new location in Maple Leaf this June. Macrina Bakery's newest cafe will open in 2,805 square feet last occupied by LeBlanc Floors & Interiors at 8501 Roosevelt Way N.E., across from Reservoir Park.

Construction began on the project this month, with Wilcox Construction as the general contractor. Macrina's new space was designed by Floisand Studio Architects and is described as a “bright, airy space that will be convenient for those on the go and comfortable for those wishing to linger.” Renderings show a light-filled interior with a mix of seating, white accents, and a distinctive wood-paneled ceiling. The main coffee bar and counter will be located on a raised area to one side of the cafe. The building's exterior also looks set to be repainted a crisp white.

Interiors will be bright and airy.

Floisand Studio has designed several Macrina Bakery locations. “We're honored to be entrusted by the long-term owners to turn their building into a welcoming, light-filled cafe for the neighborhood,” Scott France, president and co-owner of Macrina, said in a news item on the company's website.

When it opens, the Maple Leaf cafe will be the sixth Macrina bakery and cafe location in Seattle and the first to open since 2018. The original bakery opened in Belltown in 1993. Macrina was founded by Leslie Mackie and is best known for its range of artisan breads that are also sold in grocery stores across Washington.

“We're so excited to open our first cafe since 2018,” France added. “Our mission is to enrich our communities through the joy of artisan baking, and we're eager to become part of the Maple Leaf community.”

The project team also includes Graf Design.
