From condemned motel to urban village: new Bellingham community shows transformative power of development

BWCHA’s new office building is sited at a prominent corner of the development along North Samish Way. This image also shows the senior housing building, pictured to the left of the office.

The neon sign for the Aloha Motel still stands at 333 N. Samish Way in Bellingham but now fronts a drastically different development. What was once the site of a rundown motel bordering a notorious highway on the edges of downtown, is now a vibrant and welcoming mixed-use urban village community called Samish Commons.
