Tacoma-based Ferguson Architecture in April moved to a new studio/office space at 1818 Tacoma Ave. S. in the city's Hilltop neighborhood.
The studio is in a single-level building that was formerly the home of Tacoma Public Schools' (TPS) Willie Stewart Academy. The firm purchased the building from TPS and has designed and overseen a dramatic renovation of the property, both inside and out.
The new studio/office comprises a mix of work areas including an open plan desking area, a space with lounge-style seating and private meeting rooms created via glass internal walls. There is also a kitchen space and a modern restroom.
The Rush Companies was the general contractor for the renovation.
The architecture firm shares its new home with Swenson Say Faget structural engineers’ Tacoma branch, which is headed by principal Ryan Reichman.
In a social media post, Ferguson described the new studio project as “a testament to the kind of work we do – doing a lot with a little and creating big, impactful moments even when budgets are tight.”
Ferguson Architecture was founded in 2015 and serves the South Sound on commercial, residential, civic and educational projects.
The firm's original Tacoma studio was on Jefferson Avenue in the historic Swiss-Wild building.
