Bush School building is zero energy certified

The Bush School’s Upper School was the first school building in the state to be Phius Passive House certified.

The Upper School building at the Bush School has achieved Zero Energy Certification from the International Living Future Institute (ILFI).

This certification is bestowed on projects with industry-leading energy performance that represent a balance of renewable energy without the use of combustion.

The Upper School building debuted at the Bush School's Madison Valley campus in the spring of 2022. It was designed by Mithun.

Mithun's design maximizes energy performance through careful envelope detailing to limit air leakage, triple-glazed windows and rooftop PV arrays that offset electricity use in the building. The school's structure uses mass plywood decking and panels to reduce embodied carbon and further optimize energy efficiency.

The ILFI certification adds to a list of sustainable accreditations for the Upper School which was the first school building in the state to be passive house certified and the first in the country to be certified Salmon-Safe.
