Learn about I-5 lidding efforts

SEATTLE — Last year, the city of Seattle was awarded a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and $200,000 from Washington state, to advance planning for the Downtown Seattle I-5 Lid project.

This project is exploring the potential of lidding portions of Interstate-5 to create new land that could be developed for affordable housing, new parks and other community uses. The scope of the lid study area has expanded and is now from East Thomas Street to South Main Street (previously it culminated at Madison Street).
