DESC to open new shelter today

The STAR Center occupies this historic Pioneer Square property, built in 1911.

Today, the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) will open a new shelter at 619 Third Ave. in Pioneer Square. Called the STAR (Stability Through Access and Resources) Center, the facility has been specifically designed to serve people living unhoused with severe mental health issues, substance use disorders, and who have been dealing with long-term homelessness.
