Carbon River Bridge closes, cutting off Mount Rainier's Northwest access point

In this recent aerial image, rusting areas on the steel trusses can be seen underneath the bridge deck.

Pierce County's state Route 165 Carbon River Bridge's deterioration has gotten so bad that the 103-year-old bridge is no longer safe for any travel, state transportation officials announced Tuesday.
