Generations Place by Island Roots Housing construction is progressing with the third building foundation poured last week.

Generations Place in Langley on Whidbey Island is taking shape and turning heads. The traditional design is now manifest, as the first two of three buildings are roofed and work moves inside.

Island Roots Housing of Whidbey Island is the developer and owner of Langley's latest affordable housing development. Generations Place is named for the mix of unit types to suit a variety of households, and as it sits across the street from Generations Park. It is designed to serve the needs of income-qualified singles, families and seniors, with two- and three-bedroom units. All 14 units will all be income-qualified at 60 and 80% area median income (AMI).

The teams have two of the three buildings up and are now in the process of installing plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems. The foundation for the third building is poured. Street improvement work in the right-of-way is scheduled for the end of January.

Funding for the development comes from a variety of sources, with 47% of construction costs from over 500 local donors. The remaining funding comes from public sources such as Island County, the Tri-County HUD/HOME Consortium, the state Department of Commerce, and dedicated funding secured by the area's 10th District state legislators.

Completion is expected this summer.
