Basis Independent School’s K-5 school will be two stories and around 30,200 square feet.

The DJC reported in December 2024 that Basis Independent School was planning to build a second location in Bellevue's Crossroads neighborhood. The city of Bellevue recently approved the conditional use permit for the project.

The school is slated for 15760 N.E. Fourth St., which is directly across the street from Basis's current Bellevue campus. It will serve children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The current school, which opened in 2022, serves children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

To make way for the new school, a defunct 5,213-square-foot church building will be demolished. That was last home to Bellevue Bethel Church.

Basis Independent's K-5 school will be two stories and around 30,200 square feet. It will have the capacity to serve up to 300 students and have a maximum of 46 staff. There will be 16 classrooms, administration offices, an exercise room, and cafeteria with a kitchen that doubles as an assembly hall. Also planned is an approximately 8,200-square-foot playground containing play structures, play pit, basketball hoops, areas for four-square, and seating.

Inhabit Design, which is based in Seattle, is the project's architect.

The work scope also includes parking for 47 vehicles, passenger loading areas, and landscaping and frontage improvements.

Construction materials for the new school include masonry veneer, fiber cement panels, pre-finished metal panels, and vision glass. The color scheme is beige with white trim and red accents, which mirrors the existing Bellevue school. Inhabit also designed that property.

Basis has not shared a timeline, nor a builder, for the new school, which it calls its second Bellevue campus.

When it does open, it will operate separately from the current school.

Basis Independent Schools was founded in Tucson, Arizona, in 1998. Today it has private school campuses in California, New York, Northern Virginia, as well as Washington state.

The school also has a location in Bothell. That opened last fall. The Bothell school is located inside a former Class B office building. Cornerstone was the general contractor for the conversion. Inhabit Design was the architect.
