AIA Project of the Month: Alley 24: A lab for redevelopment

At the street level, two-story lofts open to the sidewalk and alley, animating the neighborhood. Located across from REI, it is a short walk to Lake Union and downtown Seattle.
When architectural giant NBBJ decided to move from its 20-year home in Pioneer Square to a new building on the eastern fringe of South Lake Union, a design statement was clearly called for.

Alley 24, its new corporate home, delivers. But it is a restrained partner in a larger complex also designed by NBBJ and owned by Vulcan Real Estate and Pemco.
