Chilkat Washington, doing business as Chilkat Cruises, has won approval from the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission to operate high-speed passenger ferry service between Seattle and Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. The 63-passenger Chilkat Express jet catamaran will make the 34-mile crossing in about one hour, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through March of 2002. It will leave Seattle from Pier 69 and arrive at the Boat Haven Marina in Port Townsend. The boat is also available for charters. Fares will be $18 each way.
