Larry Mercer, executive vice president of Home Depot has announced his retirement. Mercer, who joined the company in 1978, led store operations in the company's 1,400 locations. He will remain with the Atlanta-based store as an adviser to the chairman and chief executive until Feb. 2004. Troy Rice, named senior vice president of operations, will assume Mercer's position. Rice was most recently president of the Northwest division in Seattle. Eric Peterson, most recently regional vice president for the South Atlantic region, will replace Rice as Northwest division president. The company also announced it will test a new concept with the opening of three stand-alone landscaping stores in the Atlanta area, called Home Depot Landscape Supply.
