Washington Parks and Recreation Association

Pierce County Councilmember Calvin Goings will be honored by the Washington Parks and Recreation Association next month for his work in passing state and county legislation to support parks. He will receive the Legislative Citation of Merit April 24 at the WPRA conference in Stevenson. Goings drafted the "zoo tax" which generates $9 million a year for the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium and other parks in the county, and helped draft a real estate excise tax that generates $3 million a year for road construction and parks.
