William Demmert, a professor in the education department at Western Washington University, will receive the Seattle Pacific University medallion award for his work in the field of Native American education. The medallion is awarded to SPU alumni who have served the university and community with special commitment. Prior to his career at WWU, Demmert was commissioner of education in Alaska, director of education for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and dean of the University of Alaska in Juneau.
