Stewart Landefeld, partner at law firm Perkins Coie and chair of its national business practice, has temporarily resigned from the firm to fill the position of interim chief legal officer for his client Washington Mutual. He replaces Fay Chapman, the bank's long term general counsel, who is retiring. Landefeld is not a candidate for the position as successor and expects to return to Perkins Coie. Roy Tucker, business partner in the Portland office of Perkins Coie, will be interim chair of the business practice in Landefeld's absence.
