TACOMA (AP) — Dale Phelps, The News Tribune's deputy managing editor since 2005, has been named managing editor of the Tacoma newspaper.

The move was announced by Executive Editor Karen Peterson, who moved up from managing editor in August.

As managing editor, Phelps, 50, will oversee the newsroom operation and staff.

Phelps came to The News Tribune as sports editor in 1998. He was promoted to deputy managing editor three years ago. He previously worked at the Kansas City Star.
