After 27 years as executive director of Downtown Emergency Services Center, Bill Hobson is retiring. Under his leadership, DESC has created and expanded services for homeless people, and become a substantial provider of mental health and addiction treatment, crisis intervention and street outreach. DESC helped pioneer the Housing First approach, and Hobson was the driving force behind 1811 Eastlake, the state's first supportive housing project for homeless people suffering from chronic alcoholism that has become a national model. A retirement party will be held June 9 at Fisher Pavilion in Seattle Center starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $31 at desc.org/events.html.
