RENTON — The 30-day comment period has begun for WSDOT's proposed improvements to Interstate 405 between Tukwila and Interstate 90.
WSDOT wants to build one new lane in each direction from downtown Bellevue to state Route 167, about 12 miles. Those new lanes will be combined with existing HOV lanes to create a dual express toll lane system.
Construction is scheduled to start in 2019 and finish in 2024.
Comments on the project's environmental assessment can be submitted until Aug. 9. More information is at https://tinyurl.com/WSDOT-405Tuk-EA.
WSDOT is also holding a public hearing: 5:30-7:30 p.m. on July 17 at Renton High School cafeteria, 400 S. Second St., Renton.
