Phil Brown back as DJC managing editor

Brown

Longtime publisher of the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce Phil Brown assumed the duties of managing editor. Brown replaced Jon Silver, who was recently named managing editor of the Puget Sound Business Journal.

“Jon worked for 20 years at the DJC and we wish him well at the PSBJ,'' Brown said.

Brown, the fourth generation of his family to run the newspaper, previously was editor of the newspaper from 1991 to 1995, and has been backup editor during vacations and times of heavy work loads for the last 25 years.

Brown took over for Anthony Dodoye-Alali, who left the DJC in 1991. In 1995, Brown appointed Maude Scott as managing editor. Scott served as editor from 1995 until her retirement in May 2019.

The Daily Journal of Commerce is a member of Allied Daily Newspapers of Washington, the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association and the Associated Press.

The DJC was one of the first newspapers in the country to go online, using a dial-up system prior to the wide-spread adoption of the internet. As it become clear the internet was no passing fad, the DJC moved its online customers over. There were complaints as some customers preferred the dial-up system, but the DJC forged ahead, becoming one of the first newspapers on the World Wide Web.

Today, the DJC publishes six days per week and operates a robust website at djc.com.
