Gig Harbor, pictured here, is one of 32 incorporated cities that are part of the Maritime Washington National Heritage Area. From boats and buoys to salmon and sea shanties, the heritage area will aim to support and share the stories, resources and cultures that make Washington’s saltwater shores unique.

Starting in January, the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation will work with coastal communities in the state to chart a course for the new Maritime Washington National Heritage Area, it said in a press release.
