Maryhill Museum of Art

The four-day Plein Air Paint Out will take place July 26–29, with artists fanning out to paint the scenic beauty of the Columbia River Gorge. Close to 40 artists are expected to attend this annual event hosted by Maryhill Museum of Art since 2016 and founded 17 years ago by Hood River artist Cathleen Rehfeld Meyers. Finished artworks will be on view and available for purchase Aug. 1–28 in the museum's M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust Education Center. Artists are anticipated to create over 200 pieces during the paint out. As work is sold and removed, other work created during the paint out will replace it. Proceeds support Maryhill Museum of Art. The event is sponsored by Byron and Sue Henry, Laura and Steve Muehleck, Friends of the Columbia Gorge, and Scottsdale Artists' School. Housed in a Beaux Arts mansion on 5,300 acres high above the Columbia River, Maryhill Museum of Art opened to the public in 1940. The museum, 12 miles south of Goldendale, was founded by Northwest entrepreneur Sam Hill.
