The Stone Cottage has stood for over 90 years.

A locally beloved cottage in West Seattle is on the move today. Colloquially known as ‘The Stone Cottage,' the structure was saved from demolition by the community and the Save The Stone Cottage Group. The cottage, which has a facade of more than 15,000 hand placed beach stones, has stood at 1123 Harbor Ave. S.W for over ninety years. It will now be moved into secure storage at the Port of Seattle just a mile south of its original location. The Stone Cottage was built by Eva Falk during the Great Depression. The move will take place tonight, Aug. 17, after 11 p.m. and will end after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, Aug. 18. Moving company Nickel Bros. will pull the Stone Cottage off 1123 Harbor Avenue SW into the roadway, joining a SPD/SDOT led convoy to the Port of Seattle parking lot at 2400 Harbor Avenue SW. The cottage will be in storage temporarily. Save the Stone Cottage's final mission is to secure a new location, possibly in a park or on school grounds, so that this piece of history is preserved for generations to come. Save the Stone Cottage are putting on an event and auction to mark the move. For more information on the event and where to view the move please visit https://savethestonecottage.org/.
