Hotel Sorrento's haunted past

The Hotel Sorrento has been welcoming guests since 1909 (pictured that year).

With Halloween just around the corner, the DJC is putting a spooky spotlight on one of Seattle's – and America's - most haunted properties: Hotel Sorrento. The hotel, at 900 Madison St. on lower First Hill, was built in 1909. It was designed by architect Harlan Thomas (1870-1953). Sorrento is a luxury seven story hotel in an eclectic Italianate style built in brick. The hotel opened just before the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition of 1909 and served as a base for many coming to see the exposition.
