Sonic Concepts develops non-invasive therapeutic ultrasound systems focused on revolutionary clinical applications. The business has brought in some big-name clients — General Electric, Boston Scientific, Johns Hopkins University and University of Oxford — and needed bigger space to meet demand.
That need was recently met, as the company doubled its space in Building 2 of Alloy Innovation Center at North Creek, 18916 N. Creek Parkway in Bothell.
A team led by OAC Services rehabbed Sonic's old space and added new space to create an 11,000-square-foot headquarters and production facility. OAC says Sonic's unique design requirements included a specialized electrical lab, acoustic metrology lab and custom machine shop, as well as enhanced offices, larger conference rooms, lunchroom space, and a dressing area for employees to change into specialty technical attire needed during production.
“Sonic Concepts' new facility turned out even better than expected,” Sonic President Kyle Morrison said in a news release. “Our employees are enjoying the custom-built space, and visitors have been very impressed at being able to see our team at work in our state-of-the-art labs behind the large glass panels.”
OAC served as owner's representative, handling design, functionality requirements, schedules and finances. The company says the project finished within budget, with minimal manufacturing and office downtime.
JPC Architects was the designer and Gateway Construction was the general contractor. Ed Fischer was the project lead for OAC.
The six-building Alloy Innovation Center is a hub for ultrasound research, with Phillips Ultrasound, Siemens, the University of Washington and several other medical device companies nearby. Sonic makes therapeutic ultrasound transducers and turnkey ultrasound systems.
