SEATTLE — Once in jeopardy of closing, the Shoreline Community College dental hygiene education program, including its community clinic, has now relocated to the University of Washington School of Dentistry at 1959 N.E. Pacific St. in Seattle.
The new clinic, called the Delta Dental of Washington Clinic at the UW School of Dentistry, has 12 patient chairs and expects to provide more than 1,000 clinical visits annually at reduced cost or sliding fee scale for those who are low-income, Medicaid clients or uninsured.
SCC's advanced hygienist students will be working at the clinic side by side with fourth-year UW dental students to provide quality care with direct supervision from registered dental hygienists and licensed dentists. Clinic services include preventive care as well as dental fillings and oral cancer screenings.
With the new facility, Shoreline's hygienist program will restore its class size to 25 students — with the possibility of further expansion. Shoreline previously had to reduce its class size to 10 students amid budget and facility challenges. The relocation was made possible by a lead gift of $1.5 million from Delta Dental of Washington
