Acclaimed Bellevue sushi restaurant mixes simple ingredients with minimalist design

Heliotrope Architects' design mixes light and dark materials, creating an evocative feeling of light and shadow.

Takai by Kashiba opened at 180 Bellevue Way N.E., on the ground floor of the One88 condo building in downtown Bellevue, last fall. The highly anticipated restaurant is owned and operated by acclaimed chef Shiro Kashiba and his son, Edwin, and is headed by Shiro Kashiba's head apprentice, chef Jun Takai.
