Alaska Power & Telephone is moving its corporate headquarters to Ketchikan, Alaska. The company made the determination after considering numerous potential locations across the State of Alaska. In addition to being central to many of AP&T's service areas, Ketchikan is a two-hour flight from Seattle. Ketchikan also enjoys regular barge connectivity to the Puget Sound region and its supply chain, and ferry connectivity to many other Alaska communities. This decision comes during AP&T CEO Bill Marks' first weeks on the job. Over the decades, AP&T has grown through development of new utility systems in rural communities lacking centralized services; by acquiring and upgrading other utility systems; and by development of hydropower projects and telecommunication networks. AP&T's most recent projects have involved development of fiber optic networks bringing advanced broadband to rural Alaska. AP&T is an employee- and investor-owned utility providing diverse services in 40 locations.
