Ballard infill project takes shape

Looking roughly south, the neighboring white and blue building is the Lillehammer Apartments.

On its small lot, with only 4,250 square feet, the Waterwheel Lounge continues to serve beer and screen games at 7034 15th Ave. N.W. But its days are surely numbered, with a short-term lease, though a demolition permit hasn't been issued for the 82-year-old building.

A local investor doing business as Magedai LLC acquired the midblock property two years ago.

With Interurban Architects, there's a five-story, 16-unit apartment plan. Full design review isn't required for such a small project, which totals about 15,936 square feet.

Five surface parking stalls are planned on the back (east) side of the building, to be accessed via a curb cut on 15th and a vehicular passage through the building. Tenants would also have 16 bike stalls. And the RapidRide D Line has a stop a few steps to the south.

At grade facing 15th would be some 937 square feet intended as restaurant space. Above, units look to be one- and two-bedrooms, in a range from about 437 to 847 square feet. Some would have small balconies or decks.

Possible solar panels are indicated for the roof, but there's no roof deck for future residents.

Some would place the site, immediately north of the Lillehammer Apartments, in Whittier Heights.
