Luxury camping experience opens in Long Beach

Snow Peak Long Beach Campfield is now open for guests, offering “a luxury camping experience centered on comfort, leisure and connection with nature.”

Designed and built by the family-owned EFA Architect of Long Beach, the 25-acre campfield site is located on the Long Beach peninsula in Southwest Washington. Owned and operated by Japanese camping brand Snow Peak, it features three accommodation types, offering a “new type of high-end camping experience,” according to a news release from EFA.

EFA oversaw all the elements of Snow Peak Long Beach Campfield starting in 2020, from wetland mitigation, program development and architectural design to construction execution.

The open-air spa Ofuro Spa, modeled after traditional Japanese onsens, features a floating roof over the outdoor pool and spa.

EFA designed four main outposts that guests see and use throughout their stay. In keeping with Snow Peak's aesthetic, each building is clad in dark, shou sugi ban Japanese cypress, contrasted with natural wood interiors and exposed beams.

The Gatehouse welcomes guests at the entrance to the grounds. A massive roof overhangs both a large outdoor patio and entry offices. Guests are invited into a glass entry lined with natural hemlock. After check-in, guests can walk under a covered boardwalk supported by rhythmically placed wood columns — like passing through trees.

The Campstore offers a social hub for campers and day guests, with a cafe and taproom. A large expanse of glass frames the wetland, while timber columns inside and out repeat the rhythm of the surrounding forest. A fireplace sits in the corner of the vaulted space, with clerestory windows that allow plenty of southern light indoors.

The minimalist Wash House includes a colonnade of timber visual screening. A simple, heavy Japanese-inspired roof bookends with board form concrete walls, while concrete walls provide the backsplash for outdoor sinks. A dark Japanese cypress exterior contrasts a natural, blonde core.
