DESC to open new Third Ave. facilities

SEATTLE — Downtown Emergency Service Center announced last week that it will be opening three new programs on Third Avenue, in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, in 2025.

At 619 Third Ave., DESC will open a new 24/7 behavioral health-focused shelter called the STAR Center. The shelter will replace the former St. Charles apartments and provide accommodation for up to 85 people living unsheltered with significant mental health challenges and substance use disorders. It is expected to open by the end of March.
