Artist lofts in Fremont landmark?

SEATTLE — The former Theo Chocolate factory in Fremont is mostly vacant and up for lease, as the DJC reported in September. CBRE's Andrew Stark, Jennifer Seversen and Andrew Hitchcock represent the landmarked red-brick building at 3400 Phinney Ave. N. The over century-old structure was originally a municipal trolley barn and, decades later, home to the Trolleyman Pub.

Now it's poised to become a warren of artist lofts, with new retail and commercial space below. The local building owners and Graham Baba Architects filed an early plan this week to add one or two levels to the building. Ten possible live/work lofts would be allowed under city code that permits residential use in a commercial zone, and in a landmarked building, if said artists' work is complementary to the building and neighborhood.
