Crews are lifting the final section of concrete girders into place for the new four-lane state Route 18 bridge over Deep Creek, two miles south of Snoqualmie.
This week, seven bridge girders — each 83 feet long and weighing about 45 tons — will be placed to form the northern section of the bridge. Similar work was done in November to create the center and southern sections of the bridge.
The structure is part of the Washington State Department of Transportation's I-90/SR-18 Interchange Improvements project. Aecon Pacific Northwest of Lynnwood is the general contractor. The project, which began work in 2022, includes building a new diverging diamond interchange to improve safety and traffic flow at Interstate 90 and SR-18. Work also calls for building a new four-lane bridge on SR-18 over Lake Creek, and a new two-lane bridge over Raging River next to the existing bridge. Crews will also widen more than two miles of SR-18 south of I-90.
WSDOT's webpage for the project lists the cost at $188 million. Work is scheduled to be completed this year.
