Multifamily tax program expands

OLYMPIA — A new bill signed into law by Gov. Bob Ferguson last week will expand the state's Multifamily Housing Tax Exemption (MFTE) program to more cities and counties.

Over 50 jurisdictions across Washington already use the program, which offers tax breaks for developers building new or rehabilitating existing multiple-unit dwellings in urban centers, with a focus on creating more affordable housing units.
