Seattle-based Hoyle Hat Company is opening a new shop in Pioneer Square at 220 First Ave S. in the Grand Central Building.
The grand opening is scheduled for June 1.
Michael Patrick Hoyle started his hat company in 2018 in Belltown. It's become known for providing curated entertainment and hat-making experiences for corporate events, milestone birthdays, weddings and wineries. The move to Pioneer Square allows owner “Mike” Hoyle the ability to schedule appointments for individuals to browse the shop for a hat selection, personalize that hat, and walk out wearing it.
It takes some time to put a hat together, and that's OK with Hoyle. “It's all about the relationships,” he says. And Hoyle has made friends with special hat buyers, such as musician Jack White who is featured on the Hoyle Hat Company website.
The prominent storefront on First Avenue, near the corner of South Main Street, brings western light through towering windows to a wall lined with hats and to the hat maker's bar. When a guest arrives, they browse an array of hats on display and discuss their preferences. With a hat selected, it's on to the hat bar for accessories and fitting. Hoyle offers hat bands and adornments sourced from around the world, as well as a few value options.
Hoyle designed and built out the retail space to be unusual and approachable to hipsters and families. His hat steamer is a volcano shaped like Mount Rainier. The space is open so kids can run around while their parents work on their hat designs.
A Hoyle Hat will cost you when it's all done. Hoyle sources quality hat forms, the most expensive are made from Columbian 100X rabbit or beaver fur. Such a hat could cost as much as $4,000. Ecuadorian and Bolivian wool hats can be had for $200, but popular options are available for around $400. Straw hats start at $150. He also offers personalized caps and flat bills.
Grand opening events and times will be announced soon. Visit http://www.hoylehat.com/ for details.
