Council votes to cut utilities costs

SEATTLE — For some, utilities bills are about to get cheaper.

The Seattle City Council has unanimously passed a proposal to expand the Utility Discount Program. Starting in January 2027, households that earn less than 60% of the area median income will be eligible for a 60% discount on their Seattle City Light bills and a 50% discount on their Seattle Public Utilities bills.
