Take a bike break at Sound Break at RailSpur in PSQ

RailSpur in Pioneer Square adds a shop for cyclists to its collection, Sound Break Bike House.

A new bike shop and gathering space opened last week at 115 S. Jackson St. in the RailSpur development in Pioneer Square.

Sound Break Bike House is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5p.m.

The shop provides bike rentals, repairs, route planning and guide services, a retail shop and a cafe. Originated by local cyclist Kevin Turco, the concept combines outdoor recreation products and services with hospitality to provide a welcoming environment before and after rides, and when people seek help planning rides while visiting Seattle and the wider northwest. Bikes and gear can be rented by the half day or for multi-day excursions.

The shop is a retail, rental and informational resource for local cyclists and visitors.

Locals and visitors alike can enjoy gathering at the shop for a bite to eat and friendly chat, or for educational workshops, bike excursions and other events geared towards the cycling community such as weekly post-work group rides.

The in-house Sound Break Cafe serves grab-and-go fare and other provisions curated for cyclists such as coffee, matcha, and espresso, pre- and post-ride refreshments, and even beer and wine.

Bike riders and enthusiasts can gather at Sound Break Cafe for refreshments geared toward their needs.

The team at Sound Break includes Chris Strode, Kevin McClelland and Summer Hanson. Operations manager Strode spent nearly a decade leading Seattle’s Rapha Clubhouse, overseeing retail, cafe operations, bike rentals, and community programming. Bike program manager McClelland brings over two decades of industry expertise and is founder of Seattle-based Pine Cycles, a local boutique bike builder and Sound Break’s bike rental partner.

Community engagement will be led by Hanson who is a longtime Seattle bike commuter who brings three years of experience in the bike industry as a mechanic and ride organizer. She’ll be leading inclusive monthly group rides and heading up the events calendar.
