State jobless rate dips to 4.8%

OLYMPIA — Washington's unemployment rate fell to 4.8% in September, down from 4.9% in August and marking the third consecutive monthly decline, according to the state Employment Security Department.

Construction was one of the state's strongest-performing industries in September, adding an estimated 1,500 jobs. Most of the gains came from specialty trade contractors, which added 1,800 jobs. Construction posted the second-largest increase among private industries, trailing only professional and business services, which added 1,800 jobs.
