Quadriplegics have rights, too

By any standard, Patrick Keel had already suffered enough tragedy in his life. A quadriplegic since he was a teenager as the result of a diving accident, the Louisiana resident requires daily nursing aid for basic activities like getting in and out of bed, bathing, dressing and getting into his wheelchair.

But on Dec. 6, 1996, Patrick endured another health setback. Not a long one, mind you – just six weeks’ worth, as it turned out – but a setback nonetheless.
