Can anyone imagine "single-tracking" the E3 busway in South Seattle and having buses take turns using the lanes? Can anyone imagine "single-tracking" the transit tunnel for light rail and only converting 1 tube of the tunnels and having trains take turns using the tunnels? Of course single tracking limits capacity.
Single tracking also affects safety. How will passengers be evacuated when suspended 40-70 ft in the air? As recent breakdowns of the Seattle Center monorail have demonstrated, a second monorail is needed to pull alongside the monorail car to transfer riders. Single tracking eliminates this possibility.
