SEATTLE -- King County awarded 13 grants totaling nearly $500,000 yesterday to support the construction and renovation of sports fields, playgrounds, a rowing facility and two gymnasiums.
The grants, which range from $2,500 to $50,000, are part of the county's youth sports facility grants program, in which the recipient organizations must match the grant money.
Top recipients this year -- with each receiving $50,000 -- include: Boys & Girls Club of King County with the Federal Way School District (gymnasium); Des Moines Parks and Recreation (two parks, each with separate partner organizations); Issaquah Little League with King County Parks (ballfields); Sammamish Rowing Association and King County Parks (boathouse); Seattle Parks and Recreation with the Seattle Chinatown-International District Preservation and Development Authority (gymnasium); and the Tahoma School District with the Tahoma Sports Council (school athletic field).
