SEATTLE -- The city Parks Department has cleared another hurdle in its attempt to construct a $60 million sports complex at Sand Point Magnuson Park. The department recently released an addendum to its final environmental impact statement, which it issued in July 2002. The project was appealed and a final supplemental EIS was released last May. The new addendum provides additional information about the revised proposal, which includes 11 synthetic-surface sports fields, a sports meadow, 14 tennis courts, a roller-hockey surface, basketball and volleyball courts, a 65-acre wetland complex, an educational pavilion, pedestrian trail, four reconfigured parking lots, and a reconfiguration of the Northeast 65th Street entrance. The 153-acre project site is at 7400 Sand Point Way N.E. The City Council is expected to decide on the plan in 2004. For more information, call Eric Friedli, SPMP planning and operations director, at (206) 684-8369.
