The American Society of Civil Engineers, along with the Admixture Systems business of BASF Construction Chemicals, selected the judges for the 2007 National Concrete Canoe Competition that will be held June 14-16 in the Seattle area. Local judges include J. Mark D'Amato, a principal at Bellevue-based DCI Engineers, and Cary Kopczynski, president of Bellevue-based Cary Kopczynski & Co. Both are practicing engineers. Other judges include Kenneth L. Caubble of the Ohio Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Kelly Patterson of Oldcastle Precast Group and Rick Yelton of The Concrete Producer, Masonry Construction and Concrete Surfaces publications. The event challenges civil engineering students to design, build and race canoes constructed of concrete. The University of Washington is hosting the event this year.
