Contract for bridge pontoons coming up

  • Pontoons for the new SR 520 bridge will cost up to $500 million to build.

    WSDOT will build a mock-up, shown in the shaded area, to find the best concrete mix and forming techniques for the new SR 520 bridge pontoons. The main pontoons each will span the length of a football field.

    The Washington State Department of Transportation is seeking a design-build contractor to develop a pontoon production facility and construct 33 concrete pontoons. On June 22 the agency will issue a request for qualifications for the project, which is estimated to cost between $300 million and $500 million.
