Scott Yuhl, superintendent with Skaar, dead at age 49

Yuhl
Scott Yuhl, a superintendent at Skaar Construction, died suddenly on Sept. 25 from natural causes. He was 49.

Yuhl helped build the world's largest membrane water treatment facility in Escondido, Calif., and was last working on building two of the largest prestressed concrete reservoirs on the West Coast — 33 million gallons each — for the city of Tacoma.

Skaar Vice President Joel Anderson, who has known Yuhl for 20 years, described him in a statement as “the best at everything he set out to do,” performing work that “was of top quality and integrity.”

“Scott always took time to train the people who worked for him and to instill safety into the workforce,” he said.

Yuhl was born in Seattle and raised in Bellevue, where he attended St. Louise Parish School and Interlake High School.

He had been a superintendent at Skaar Construction for eight years.

Before coming to Skaar, Yuhl spent two years at Bomel Construction, where he performed concrete work on Qwest Field, and 11 years at Mowat Construction Co. His work at Mowat included post-tensioning for the state Route 520 floating bridge and building on- and off-ramps for Interstate 90 at Rainier Avenue in Seattle.

Yuhl's mother, Colleen Yuhl, said she remembers him as always willing to help others. In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking, travel, hiking and golf.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Randall; three children, Nathan, Elisha and Brandon; siblings, Brian Yuhl of Snoqualmie, Douglas Yuhl of Ferndale, Steven Yuhl of Hawaii and Pamela Wells of Kent; parents Michael and Colleen Yuhl of Bellevue; and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Louise Catholic Church, 141 156th Ave. S.E., Bellevue.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the Scott Yuhl Memorial Children's Educational Fund at Chase Bank.
