The city of Lynnwood tomorrow is unveiling its $25 million renovation of the Lynnwood Recreation Center at 18900 44th Ave. W.
Crews renovated the 33-year-old building and added 16,000 square feet of space for aquatics and fitness. Bellevue-based Mortenson was the general contractor/construction manager under a $17 million construction budget.
Patrons will find a new recreation pool with two water slides, a river for floating, beach entry and water play structures, warm water wellness pool, a partially retractable roof over the lap pool, and adult and family hot tubs.
There also is a 3,000-square-foot cardio/weight room, along with a 1,600-square-foot fitness/dance studio, seven family changing rooms, new locker rooms, racquetball courts, new mechanical systems and new interiors.
The design team was led by NAC Architecture, which has offices in Spokane and Seattle.
Energy efficiency and environmental design allowed the city to seek LEED silver certification. Green elements include low-flow toilets and shower heads, high-efficiency boilers, solar preheating for domestic hot water, water-saving pool filtration systems, rain gardens and recycled content in building materials.
Landon Construction Group served as the city's construction manager and owner's representative. The city said more than 50 subcontracting firms provided about 100,000 hours of prevailing-wage work on the job.
Ascendent LLC handled the demolition.
