Sound Transit is preparing to hire a general contractor/construction manager for the Capitol Hill light rail station.

A notice published in the Aug. 4 DJC said the maximum allowable cost is $90 million.

The agency will hold a pre-proposal meeting at 1 p.m. Aug. 22 in Sound Transit's board room, 401 S. Jackson St., Seattle, followed by a visit to the site on Broadway.

The deadline for submitting statements of qualifications and plans for a “proposed approach” is Sept. 20. Construction is scheduled to start in 2013 and be done in 2015.

The station will be on the 3.15-mile University Link line from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington. U Link is scheduled to open in 2016.

Seattle-based Hewitt designed the station. It will have three entrances: on the east side of Broadway at East John Street; at the corner of East Denny Way and Nagle Place; and on the west side of Broadway just off Denny, which is shown here.

Sound Transit has estimated that by 2030, there will be 14,000 daily boardings at the station, which also will be served by a streetcar line to the International District.

There are four transit-oriented development sites around the station. Sound Transit officials have said development could start in 2015.
