International Community Health Services held a grand opening last week for its Shoreline Medical & Dental Clinic at 16549 Aurora Ave. N.
The 45,000-square-foot, three-story clinic has 20 exam rooms, 10 dental chairs, three community meeting rooms, a laboratory, two exhibit galleries and an outdoor reflection garden. A pharmacy will be added later.
Parking is provided in a below-grade garage and at street level.
The entry, elevator lobbies and back-of-house areas have concrete shear walls up to 55 feet tall with smooth exposed finishes. Project backers say the building was the first locally to use cross-laminated timber, which makes up both the roof structure and architectural ceiling.
Architect Miller Hayashi designed the building to LEED gold standards and the team is seeking certification.
The design process involved building room mock-ups so that ICHS staff could review the layout in a hands-on way.
The design team was: KPFF Consulting Engineers, civil and structural; Metrix Engineers, mechanical; Travis Fitzmaurice & Associates, electrical; Transpo Group, transportation; Geo Engineers, geotechnical; and Fredericks Landscape Architecture.
Lease Crutcher Lewis was the general contractor.
Major subcontractors were: Coastal Steel; Cobra Building Envelope Contractors; Columbia Fire; Commercial Floor Distributors; Division Five, The Steel Fabrication Co.; Division Seven Waterproofing; Eastside Glass; Expert Drywall; Flooring Solutions; Grund & Co.; Hawk Mechanical; KONE; Northshore Sheet Metal; Pacific Rim Construction; R&D Masonry; Rainier Steel; Specialized Landscaping; T-Bar Construction; Titan Electric; and Westmark Products.
Lewis and Miller Hayashi earlier this year finished an expansion and upgrade to the ICHS clinic in Bellevue.
ICHS is a nonprofit that provides health services to Asian Pacific Islanders and the broader community.
