Urban Visions has started construction on 200 Occidental, a Pioneer Square office building that will be Weyerhaeuser Co.'s headquarters.
JTM Construction recently put a fence around the site, and crews were digging up the parking lot Wednesday.
The building will be seven stories with 214,000 square feet, and is set to open in the third quarter of 2016. There will be ground floor retail and 68 underground parking stalls.
One unique feature will be ceilings on the office floors that are nearly 13 feet tall. The structure's compact core will mean fewer columns and higher ceilings.
Mithun is the architect. Other team members are Magnusson Klemencic Associates, Site Workshop, Sparling and PAE.
Weyerhaeuser said last summer it will move 800 employees to 200 Occidental and sell its Federal Way headquarters. Weyerhaeuser said the Federal Way campus is too big, and a downtown Seattle location will help recruit and retain employees.
