Qualification statements from heavy-civil GC/CM contractors are due Friday on a big component of Sound Transit's East Link project.
The E130 Downtown Seattle to South Bellevue contract will build two light rail stations and 6.9 miles of track at a cost approaching $370 million. The new line will run mostly along Interstate 90 from International District Station to a point east of the East Channel Bridge.
New stations will be on Mercer Island and near Rainier Avenue South — both consisting of platforms in the middle of I-90. Riders will enter Mercer Island Station at 77th and 80th avenues southeast, and Rainier Station at Rainier Avenue South and 23rd Avenue South.
Sound Transit will evaluate the GC/CM qualification statements and invite the highest ranked companies for an interview. The agency will then short-list the interviewees and they will submit their final proposals in July.
Preconstruction services are expected to start later this year with the selected GC/CM. Preconstruction includes constructability reviews, value engineering, construction work plans, estimating and scheduling.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2017 and complete in 2020. The entire 14-mile East Link is expected to open in 2023.
Parsons Brinckerhoff is the designer.
